I go here every Tuesday for the next 2 months

My sister and I went to Sunday school here in the 50s/60s. Our parents were big supporters - Sisterhood, board of directors, financial support. We heard the Purim story and I spent decades (very occasionally) wondering who was Ahashuerus and how he fits into history. Eventually I read Herodotus - about 30-40 years later!! - and it became clear he was Xerxes I. An important member of the Achaemenid dynasty which was eventually overthrown by a guy named Alexander. So about 3-4 years ago (time of UniHi reunion, I live in Alaska) I tried to connect with head of religious education (their female rabbi) to suggest they mention this so students have a better historical context. Not only did she refuse to return my call but they blocked my cell!! (Paranoid, I guess, although I supplied my family references). I sent a $250 donation with the very small suggestion but again they never contacted me. Something seems to have gone dreadfully wrong with the place since the days of Leonard Beerman and Sandy Ragins. You’d think they’d be happy to hear from alumni.

From the moment you walk through the doors, this synagogue feels genuinely welcoming. The atmosphere is warm, inclusive, and thoughtfully created so that everyone, whether you’re a long-standing member, a newcomer, or simply visiting, feels at ease and valued. A special mention must go to the Executive Director, whose kindness, professionalism, and quiet leadership set the tone for the entire community. Their approachability and care are evident in every interaction, and it’s clear how much heart goes into making the synagogue a place where people truly belong. This is a community built on warmth, respect, and connection. It’s not just a synagogue, it’s a home for people at all stages of their Jewish journey, and a place you leave feeling uplifted. And don't get me started on the wonderful guitar playing. I've never felt part of a community more. Can't wait to make it our permanent home.

My narcoleptic mother and I stopped here for rest when she was bringing me home from the psych ward. I would have driven us myself, but I didn’t have my license on me. Some security guard came and threatened to call the police until we left. All she wanted was 20 minutes of sleep. That’s all she wanted.

By appointment only. I was not even allowed to walk around.

Pleasent surroundings and ample parking.

They have Covid-19 testing on site. Great place if you need it for a flight right away but you will need to pay for it. 👍😷

went to pre-school here, as well as temple. They thought it was weird that i enjoyed smelling things. i was 4 years old, of course i enjoyed smelling things.
