I cannot say enough good things about Sarah Rhoads. Despite a long wait (because she's so good), it was well worth the wait. She took an hour to really listen, not the typical 5 minutes. She gave me an accurate diagnosis that another pulmonologist, an allergist, and an ENT couldn't figure out way under the cost of my previous pulmonologist. She took very detailed notes and even printed them out for me. She went above and beyond. Other staff members: Allergist went off of inaccurate notes from a staff member and gastroenterology scheduler did not even know the address. Speech therapist couldn’t even put two and two together that the cause of my VCD was post-nasal drip. However, she said there’s a multitude of other non-asthmatic things that can cause similar weird noises when I clear my throat.

HORRIBLE. 0 resources for patient advocacy. The only number they have for formal complaints constantly goes to voicemail and NEVER has someone to pick up and address your concerns. I’ve been a patient here for well over a decade, since I was a child, and I’ve just today had the worst experience here and wouldn’t doubt that medical racism had perhaps came to play. Nurse practitioner Lauren Spitzinger was very unhelpful and wasn’t even with me for 10 minutes to address my pulmonary test results. I spent more time waiting than I did with the medical “professionals”. Is this what I took time off of work for? To be seen for 5 minutes after waiting a half hour and just to be told to “pick up inhaler from downstairs pharmacy”? Also just for them to not have my inhaler for the next 3 days to a week. This is distasteful and borderline malpractice. I’ve been with doctor Vamsi Guntur for over a year and have not had even close to such a bad experience than what I’ve had with Lauren Spitzinger. Guntur is an AMAZING doctor and I always feel satisfied after meeting with her. Spitzinger is really incompetent/uncaring compared to her colleagues. Or perhaps, I don’t know, maybe Spitzinger isn’t this uncaring with other clients but decided to be inattentive towards me. She said that her computer is down and that she “fears that all the computers in the building may be down”, so I don’t know if she just didn’t feel like doing her job in the morning. I just hope it has nothing to do with the fact that I am black or that I am on Colorado Medicaid, because as of now, I have no reason to believe that may or may not be the case. It’s even more sad that I can’t find not one person to voice my concerns to.

I was misdiagnosed with Scleroderma a few years ago then on August 1, 2025 was given massive steroids in the ED in Boulder, which can cause significant harm in patients with Scleroderma. The provider who gave me those steroids already has an admonishment on his record. Mayo clinic projected the diagnosis of limited systemic sclerosis and it was finalized at NJH in February of this year. I also have autism. Dr. Sapkota has tested and retested and referred and rereferred me. Neither Mayo or NJH has addressed the massive steroid poisoning I suffered, nor has anyone helped with symptom management in 10 months except giving me GERD remedies. Dr. Sung was dismissive here. Dr. Tavee and much of the support staff have been excellent, thus why I didn't leave 1 star. Dr. Sapkota found my case difficult and has not known how to manage it. She referred me to several providers, including Dr. Yunt, who became the epitome and capstone of the last months of struggle with providers who refuse to listen to me as a patient and validate my symptoms. Symptoms are paramount to understanding and providing better outcomes and so is believing and truly caring about the person who is ill. I felt discriminated against my Dr. Yunt. I speak quickly, which is an autism feature for me and she said because of this and me 'overreacting' to my symptoms of vacillating blood pressures, multiple arythhmias, visions changes, 10 to 20 pound fluid retention, and more, that I need a mental health consult and anti depressants. This was not only offensive but it was incredibly harmful and inaccurate and continues to diminish my need for actual care to other providers who read her notes, and shamed me for actually seeking it. It's a cop out where providers can blame the patient because they don't know and then they don't have to work harder to help find remedy. Discrimination is harmful and also illegal. It inhibits the patient being helped and receiving the best prognosis possible. I'm a bit fearful to continue care here and there are only two centers in Colorado who treat my disease. Dr. Sapkota's staff called me yesterday and told me not to message in the portal until my next visit with a different provider in almost 5 weeks. Immediately after that Dr. Sapkota wrote me and told me to message pulmonology directly about a testing question I had after her staff told me not to message. Her staff did not put in writing to not message them. A woman I don't know told me over the phone. I need management for the massive fluid on my body and continual blood pressure swings and other symptoms and I can't get that without being monitored because I have low blood pressure. After I took those steroids I went to 12 other EDs and was not helped. There has been no urgency and I have a disability and have been traumatized by the medical system in Colorado. I have no idea what to do next. I wish I had better care. If it continues like this, I fear a horrible outcome, which Dr. Yunt dismissed because she told me she has read about what it feels like to have massive BP swings. She's never felt it herself and yet told me my symptoms aren't warranting my reactions. She told me what my experience was instead of listening. All doctors should have to live a tiny glimpse of what their patients go through, if even for 5 minutes time. If so, the health care system would be reborn and much more successful. Please do better. Our lives/quality of life depend upon your care. Update: after I contacted patient advocacy, wrote reviews, and contacted the State, NJH Pulmonology Department sent me two letters of the same content telling me that I need to be more respectful and that my behavior warranted the letter. I have changed this review to 1 star. The letters were retaliatory and I feel the facility is now discriminatory against me and my attempts at vocalizing the issues I had with Dr. Yunt and how I was treated. Is this the way to treat people who are ill and who have disabilities?

It is not the hospital at all it once was. You rarely get a message back. You can't get referrals sent to doctors. If it is out of the normal thru do not care to treat. I had one doctor reasons to my email 2 months later and it was critical.
Very difficult to get in touch with anyone. Very frustrating. When you try calling them, no one answers the phones and the mailboxes are full and cannot accept any messages. When you try to message them online, MyChart isn't working -- and when you try to get help through the MyChart Patient Portal you are put on hold for over ten minutes, only to get a message that says there are no representatives available and to try back another time. I have been trying to speak with someone for a week. Absolutely terrible hospital. Update to review from 3 years ago: NJH is still the worst hospital I have ever dealt with. I love my doctor but I'm done with NJH.
2 helpful votesTotal nightmare, go to national Jewish, get lots of messages from intermountain 'health' WHO? And what's the point of added confusion, another healthcare provider that isn't my actual provider. From various people I suspect that intermountain is doing admin junk but then WHY refer to it as if it's my healthcare provider, ie, did you have a good visit to intermountain health? This is the finest of dystopian no communication, direct while misdirecting. Rotten and confusing.
I didn't receive care, more of a high pressure time-share pitch to get me in a CPAP. Only I have no apnea symptoms. I could've came in with an ax lodged in my head and I assume the diagnosis would still be apnea. Untrustworthy and unprofessional. Editing to add that I am now being sent spam messages from National Jewish via MyChart. That platform should be for healthcare needs exclusively, not advertising.
NIGHTMARE: Six years as a patient here, and my honest takeaway: this institution runs on delay, void of care. Getting an appointment with rheumatology has always been 8 months or more- at one point it was a year and a half. That's not an isolated scheduling hiccup, that's a system working as designed. Beyond the wait times, there's been a consistent, ongoing disregard for patient well-being… missed diagnoses, poor follow-through, decisions that didn't seem thought through. I stayed anyway, because leaving meant starting the same 6-12 month wait at another rheumatologist office. So for years I was stuck choosing between bad care and no care- and given my health I could not risk no care. There also seems to be significant staff turnover. Nearly every visit, I’m seeing a different nurse practitioner or PA rather than a consistent care team. My actual doctor is rarely available, and getting an appointment with her specifically means waiting a year or more. Continuity of care shouldn’t be this hard to come by. Last time I was there, one of the patients there asked if I was seeing Dr. Malecki. I joked and said see her, When? She is never around. Her reply was to cut ties because the level of care here is awful. I couldn’t agree more. What finally pushed me to leave was that same pattern of disregard, and the process of trying to transfer my records only confirmed it. I called to request the transfer and left two messages over two weeks- no callback, despite their own 48-hour promise. I had to physically show up and fill out a paper form. Staff told me it would be sent to my new rheumatologist within 24 hours. That was over a week ago. When I called the receiving office to confirm, they had nothing on file. Nothing was sent. Six years of unreturned calls, broken promises, and a real lack of accountability have taught me not to expect anyone here to take your care seriously. If you can go anywhere else, go anywhere else. And after reading countless reviews, it seems I am not the only one with the same experience…. Sheesh gtfo.
I have visited National Jewish three times in my life for allergies and asthma. Once at age 8 and again ages 42 and 70. NatJew sorted out what all my other MDs could not, three times! I can't believe the # of 1 star reviews. Did these people go to the same hospital? A special shout out to Dr. Lanny Rosenwasser (no longer at NatJew) and Dr. Rafeul Alam. Both of them are exemplary MDs. Thanks to the nurses and respiratory techs for putting up with me.
1 helpful voteCan't recommend this place. I saw a Dr. for some issues per direction of my pcp. After initial visit he thinks I have asthma, I come in 2 more times for tests and $1k later he says its not asthma and gives no other options or follow up. I end up seeing my pcp and a cardiac specialist who both still think my issue is lung related. Nothing like a surprise bill (7 months after the visit and for an appt which I had already paid a bill for) to remind me to leave a review. Two stars for the test techs who were great.
3 helpful votesThe best facility in Denver in the way of the actual facility, staff, and doctors. If I could exclusively go to NJ, I would.
BEWARE!!! The billing department doesn’t know how to do their job correctly and will send you bills for things you don’t owe. Trying to get this resolved is a NIGHTMARE! I have gone to National Jewish for multiple years and I have never had any problem with the billing department, however this year they have decided to process all my claims incorrectly as an outpatient hospital instead of a dr office visit and now I’m getting bills saying I owe thousands. All the billing department does when you call is argue. Interestingly enough, my husbands claims are getting billed correctly, just not mine.
It was hashimotos the whole time. I have results from national jewish that show a high TSH yet never got treated. They'd rather try a million random prescriptions than just treat what's right in front of them.
This place was amazing when I had long covid from the Pfizer vaccine most likely. The only thing I would recommend is be sure to recommend people use their Albuterol after a bronchial dilation test if they have it. This would have saved me a trip to the ER because I was getting over long Covid symptoms when I did my bronchial dilation and struggled to breathe afterwards. With the long Covid brain fog at the time, I didn't think to try my Albuterol, but the ER recommended trying that and it helped. Otherwise this place is amazing and I highly recommend them. Very affordable too.
I had my initial intake with the MD on 3/23, it seemed to go well, I left optimistic. The doctor has still not put in his note so referrals, tests, follow up appointments can not be scheduled. It is 4/25. I have called twice, I was told MD’s have 30 days to do their notes, it is over 30 days. What a shame!!
Been a patient for over 10 years, but lately (past year or so) their response time to messages sent through patient portal has been extremely poor! They want labs every couple months. Fine. But when I need a new standing lab order & request it and don't hear back (even after a week) then I have to keep changing my lab appointment. The kicker is that NJH won't renew my prescriptions because I haven't had my labs done. Yes, the labs they can't bother to fax the order in!
The Immediate Care is amazing! The care was quick and efficient and the staff/provider were awesome!
