My friend anakin went with me to this place and we found it very intresting at first UNTIL, they took us down to the secret basement and then... unspeakable things happened there.

It’s a museum and place of worship too. The staff could not have been nicer and the Maine Jewish History will always have a place to show the achievements made by Jewish Mainers. Shalom my friends.
Not really a museum. More of an art gallery. Confusing to navigate, with no real guidance on what areas are private vs. public. The sanctuary is gorgeous, and the current ampersand exhibit is super fun- my children and I spent 20 minutes browsing it, looking for people we know.

Fantastic ! Beautiful meaningful displays, So much fascinating information, so well presented.. moving stories of experiences in Europe and concentration camps, Jews moving to America and the history of Judaism in New England and Maine.... So interesting to learn about the rich history of Judaism in the area .

Worth visiting for multiple reasons. For starters, it’s an art gallery, with interesting rotating exhibits. It’s also an exquisite synagogue, and be sure to check out the balcony with a Holocaust memorial consisting of several photographs of survivors and their stories. Free admission — but we gladly donated.
A beautiful building with incredible history in Portland and Maine. Hosts enriching artists from all over the world, bringing them to our city. A valued spot in our community, everyone is welcome.
This museum has a great exhibit of photos of Israeli Defense Force soldiers eating sushi! They are just absolutely GORGING themselves on delicious sushi prepared for them by specially chosen real Japanese sushi chefs! !They are REALLY chowing down! Yum!!! What a DELICIOUS idea for a photo exhibit. How about a whole IDF mukbang channel of IDF soldiers stuffing themselves on different kinds of Yummy foods!
Beautiful art and a lovely space
Wonderful docents and artists, sharing information about the museum, it's history, and about the synagogue and art within. There is also a tribute to many Jewish people held in captivity by Hamas from the October 7, 2023 attack. A wonderful place to visit. I am on a cruise and I was too late to get onto any of the tourist bus trips and it's a good thing that I was! I just walked around and happened upon this museum...a gem that I would have otherwise missed. I recommend very highly.

A moving experience Inspiring displays
Beautiful building with rotating art exhibits

What a hidden gem! We were drawn in by the beautiful garden and then decided to stop inside. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the exhibits inside were thought provoking. I recommend going up to the 3rd floor for the view and also for the interactive cantor exhibit.
