Cafe Landwer is an Israeli-European cafe that brings a warmth and polish to the Audubon Circle area that makes it feel like more of a destination than a neighborhood stop. The interior is stunning in a way that makes sitting inside the obvious choice, with a Parisian-influenced aesthetic that gives the space a comfortable elegance without feeling formal. The staff is consistently attentive and genuinely warm. The shakshuka is the dish the menu is built around and it earns that status, arriving with a richness and depth in the tomato base that makes it the kind of thing you want to work through slowly with good bread alongside it. The eggs Benedict and pancakes are both strong brunch options and round out a morning menu that covers enough ground to satisfy a table with varying preferences. On the dessert side the Rosalach is the standout, particularly the half Nutella and half Lotus Biscoff version, which is the kind of thing that justifies coming back specifically for it. The Turkish coffee is well made and the $3 drip coffee deal, when available, is one of the better value propositions in the area.

DONT COME TO STUDY. They call themselves a cafe but really it’s a restaurant — you have to wait to be seated and the only solo spots with ample space to sprawl out and plug in a laptop charger are the bar stools by the window which are super high up, if you’re tall your legs will hit the table and you’ll be super uncomfortable. Food was delicious but expensive. I came to study and left paying $25 for poached egg on a croissant and potatoes. I was even asked to tip. It’s not a cafe at all.

I ordered the freshly squeezed orange juice, but what I received was store bought orange juice with ice. There was no indication that it wasn’t freshly squeezed, yet I was still charged the price listed for fresh orange juice. The taste immediately seemed like packaged juice, so I asked the staff to confirm. They admitted it wasn’t fresh and said they were too busy to prepare freshly squeezed orange juice, so they decided to serve store-bought juice instead. What was most disappointing is that nobody informed me beforehand or gave me the option to choose. I don’t like store bought orange juice at all. Had I not noticed the difference and asked about it, they would have let me believe it was freshly squeezed. Charging customers for a premium product while knowingly serving a cheaper substitute without disclosure is unacceptable.

Absolutely amazing food. Great atmosphere. Michelle was fantastic and ran circles around the others working there- so be sure to snag her to serve you! The restrooms were out of toilet paper and soap and when I did tell someone about this, I was met with rudeness and hostility by the woman at the front desk on the “other side”. But when I told Michelle she was amazing and listened and seemed to handle the problem. Thank you for a great evening!
