Aging Resource Center.

@Mary Cain - am sorry you had a poor impression of the Aging Resource Center (ARC). Am not sure what happened, but wanted to share some information. Am not an employee, but speaking as a frequent visitor to ARC. The building complex that you entered held several offices for individual companies. The room opposite the front door was only one of the meeting rooms for the Aging Resource Center. The door to the right led to a warm, inviting living room, with quilts, couches and large library. About a year ago ARC moved to the Dartmouth Health campus. Large welcoming spaces, a wide variety of classes are offered, in person and on line. Truly hope you stop in again, experience all the great things happening there. From cooking, discussions, chair yoga, Zentangle, to a Ukulele Jam, it is all there.

The people who work here are nice and they mean well but beyond listening to what was going on, we didn’t feel like we were given much guidance or support on care for my father as he declined with Alzheimer’s. They gave us a couple lists of facilities which we could have just as easily found on google.

The day that I arrived it had just snowed. There is a sharp incline driving in. There is quite a bit of parking. This is a brick building. They did salt the sidewalks. There were huge pines that you had to walk under that were loaded with snow but you had to walk right under them. It was rather dangerous. Any of that snow could have fallen right on top of your head, because that is what snow does. It falls First impressions when you walk in the door is, that it's quite unusually designed. The bathrooms are located immediately to the left. There are too many signs. When I arrived, there was absolutely no one around. You have to wear a mask. There is a hand sanitizer station. There was no receptionist at all. They require you to stop, ring a bell and someone supposed to greet you, but nobody came. The physical room where I was supposed to go, was directly in front of the door straight down the hall but it was very crowded. The square shaped banquet tables filled the room to an uncomfortable maximum. No lights were on in the room making it uninviting. There was nothing cozy about that particular room. It was functional, stark and inviting. I don't recall seeing any beautiful artwork or for plants to make it more appealing. I had called the day before to confirmed the meeting. No one ever called me back. It went directly to voicemail. It's a little disturbing actually. I was able to enter the building with no one noticing. In this day and age that's not something that anyone wants to do. I went in the middle of the afternoon so it wasn't as if there shouldn't have been someone to greet you.. I finally found somebody in an office explained that they didn't think that that that was the right day and I said well why didn't they anybody call me back? She didn't know. Later when I was in my car, I called and got a receptionist who who actually had gotten my call and forwarded it someone else, rather than calling me back and that person never followed through. It was a wasted trip for me and an experience I don't think I'd like to have again especially as a Senior Citizen which is the market that they serve, I found it quite shocking..

The present unexpected time we find ourselves in have been especially challenging for me as a care partner of one with “probable Alzheimer’s Disease.” The Aging Resource Center has been an important touchstone in our lives for several yrs running and will continue to be going forward. The journey we are on together has been a loving and at times sad one for Mike & I. Life on life’s terms🙏 ARC has helped us both live the big active stimulating lives we had envisioned for ourselves before Progressive Dementia settled in our midst. The staff’s genuine caring support, extensive programing offerings & their above and beyond work this past yr allowed them to stay present in our lives & us easy access to them while in isolation. Will be forever grateful for having walked through their doors. U will be too.

My father's just been diagnosed with Altzheimers and Lewy Body Dementia. This place is a wonderful resource for caregivers. We found the staff compassionate and supportive.
